In November 2018, the Princeton Health Department became just the third local health department in New Jersey to be awarded from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). To receive accreditation (PDF), the Department had to undergo a rigorous, multi-faceted, peer-reviewed assessment process to ensure it meets or exceeds a set of quality standards and measures. The mission of the voluntary national accreditation program is to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing and ultimately transforming the quality and performance of the nation's state, Tribal, local, and territorial public health departments.
Assessments
PHAB's initial accreditation assesses a health department's capacity to carry out the ten Essential Public Health Services; manage an effective health department; and, maintain strong and effective communications with the governing entity.
